expression for Vout

Hi Considering an NMOS with a resistor R connected to its source, 5V to its drain and 3 V to its gate [assuming a threshold of 1 V], is there an expression for the voltage across the resistor in terms of R . I tried deriving it as Id*R , but ended up with Vout on both sides of the eqn, which could not be reduced as Vout= <something>. It would be great if someone can help. Thanks

Draw the small signal model for the device and thenya cana easily derive the equation
Thanks for your reply.Since the transistor is in saturation [drain->Vdd], Rds = infinity. I wonder if the above equation holds still.
Hi, I believe its like this... Vdd = Rds* Ids + Ids * R Ids = (Vdd)/ (Rds + R) Therefore, Vo = Vdd * ((R)/(Rds +R)) Rds => source drain resistance Please post your comment too mfk
