Depth in FIFO's


Hey All, Can any body expalin me how can we know the depth of FIFO's when my writing (16bit data)with 400 Mhz clock and reading (16bit data)with 125 Mhz clock. Its great for me if any one can explain with other example clearly. renu.........

Hi Renu, Some more data is needed to caluculate the depth of the fifo. With this data we can not caluculate the depth. We need more data like how freqently the input data will arrive and how frequently the data will be read out from fifo. Once we have those data I can tell how to caluculate the depth. i think it should be a minimum of 400/125=3.2=4 since the thumb rule is that u shd not miss out any data.bye
